Personality:
Initially, Asuna was a solitary player. When everyone first became trapped in the world of Aincrad, she was interested in helping to clear it, but doing it by herself. She did not want to party or even make friends. Her driving motivation, at the time, was to become stronger so she could help to clear the game and return to the real world. She spent a good deal of time alone, leveling quickly and mastering her skills with a rapier, her weapon of choice. There comes a time though, when Asuna realized that there’s only so much you can do as a solo player.
After coming to terms with the fact that staying alive and advancing would be much easier with the assistance of others, Asuna joins a guild called Knights of the Blood Oath (there’s a rather large timeskip of a couple of years so the when isn’t very clear). Because of her skills and startlingly high level, she becomes the sub-leader and makes a name for herself. Her reputation precedes her wherever she seems to go, and people everywhere recognize her face. Though she doesn’t hate the attention, she doesn’t necessarily revel in it, either. She accepts that it comes with being such a skilled player and just seems to roll with it.
Asuna is shown to have a very proud and stubborn personality, made obvious by the fact that she fought her guild-assigned bodyguard tooth and nail just to be given some freedom. She defies direct orders from the leader when she finally ditches him and parties with Kirito, and does it with a smile. From then on, her relationship with Kirito begins to blossom from friends to something more. While they were always friends, Kirito gives Asuna something to protect.
Kirito brings out a side of Asuna that she initially did not have, or at least didn’t show. He is her first real friend in Aincrad, and because of this, she is fiercely loyal and devoted to him. While she can have a more tsundere attitude with him, threatening him with kitchen knives (while cooking meals for him), she generally cares very deeply about Kirito and wouldn’t hesitate to sacrifice herself for him. The two eventually confess their love for one another, and it’s at this point that she confesses that if anything were ever to happen to him, she’d take her own life. Life is meaningless without Kirito, because he is all she has in Aincrad.
She can be reckless, often to the point where she puts her own life on the line for people she cares about, and that number is slowly increasing, the more time she spends with people. She doesn’t think twice about jumping in front of someone to take a hit or staying behind to fight a monster so someone else can escape. The quickest way to anger Asuna is to hurt someone she loves.
She sometimes lets her feelings get the best of her, and she is capable of extreme anger, though she doesn’t show it very often. Witnessing meaningless, avoidable deaths, betraying her, and hurting those closest to her can set her off. When Kuradeel, her guild-assigned bodyguard, betrayed another member and Kirito, she didn’t hesitate to attack, though she stopped once he pleaded for mercy, despite later finding out it had been a trick.
Asuna can be somewhat oblivious to the feelings of other people, and may find it difficult to read people in general. It can best be seen by the fact that she has no idea how almost every other girl Kirito encounters feels about him. This isn’t necessarily out of malice or something she does intentionally, it’s just not something she really considers.
Overall, Asuna is an upbeat, determined girl that puts others before her and wants to clear the game so she can save the people that remain.
Abilities: Because most of these are in-game acquired, I’m not really sure how they would translate to this game, but I’ll list all of the notable ones!
-She is highly skilled with a rapier, earning her the nickname Flash
-She possesses healing capabilities
-She is an excellent cook
Sample Entry:
It was just supposed to be another floor boss. There was nothing particularly notable about the 62nd floor, so the 62nd boss shouldn’t have been worth mentioning, either. Even though everyone knew to always be prepared and stay on their toes, the last few floors hadn’t been that difficult, so why should this one? Really, that should have been the only tip-off they needed.
Asuna grimaced as she held her side, eyes darting from Kirito to a fallen member of the force that was sent in to clear the floor, teeth almost biting clear through her bottom lip. Another one down, and she was there to do something about it. She just wasn’t strong enough to stop it. That wasn’t the only problem, though. There weren’t enough of them, there never were anymore. Their numbers were slowly dwindling. But they had to make do with what they had, they just had to. After a quick glance to her health-meter, she walked over to Kirito and offered a small smile.
The dragon-like boss they were currently engaging had been a shock to them all. Rarely had they encountered flying bosses; for all that this game had done to them, perhaps the game was designed with some sort of fairness built-in. Flying was an unlearnable skill, and any item that could do it had yet to be discovered. What wasn’t new or unexpected – but that didn’t mean they liked it any more – was the fire-breathing. Combined with the flying (it was just so hard to reach), the boss was deadly.
“Kirito-kun, we’ll figure this out. We always do.”
Luckily, the boss didn’t attack when they all fell back; it seemed designed to protect its drop, much like dragons in legends, and did not attack unless someone attacked first. Asuna almost felt bad for this one. It really didn’t WANT to fight, it just seemed intent on protecting something dear to it. With a rueful smile, she re-adjusted her grip on her rapier. She could relate.
If they wanted to get out though, and do so with the least amount of casualties, they’d have to finish this quick, though. Doing so was much more difficult when the dragon refused to land.
An almost feral war-cry from one of the larger members of the force caused Asuna to divert her attention from Kirito, watching as the man leapt up off of one of the fallen pillars, aiming his sword skill at the dangling tail of the dragon. A blast of energy clipped the side of its tail and with an animalistic snarl, the dragon faltered mid-flight and rained fire down on the man that attacked him.
Without even a second though, Asuna ran over to the fallen man, heart pounding loudly in her chest. No. They couldn’t afford to lose another one. She couldn’t let him go when she was RIGHT THERE to do something about it. She dropped to her knees next to him – she didn’t even know his NAME and he was going to die and his health meter was dropping too fast, the fall must have hurt him more than the burn but the burn wasn’t helping – and fumbled with her last potion. She uncorked it quickly with her teeth and poured it into his mouth, only breathing again when his health stopped dropping.
She looked back to an equally concerned Kirito, then to the dragon, and nodded. The man’s attack did the trick. It needed its tail to maintain balance while flying, and with it damaged, it was forced to land.
They always did figure it out, after all.
